At elevated temperatures, pipes that are welded are prone to intergranular corrosion. Though there are multiple causes for this, the main cause of corrosion according to 321 Stainless Steel Pipe Suppliers is the precipitation of chromium carbides in the HAZ that occurs in the weld seam. On the latitudinal weld seam, the free carbon atoms get attached to the free chromium atoms that are present on the surface of the steel. This reaction takes place at a considerably higher temperature range of 800°F to 1500°F. The deposition of chromium carbides weakens the weld seam by making it vulnerable, leading to the corrosion of Ss 321 Welded Pipe. However, in the case of this alloy, manufacturers add some amount of titanium to its melt. Titanium is a stabilizing agent. And as a stabilizing element, the titanium atom gets attached to the carbide atom.

The newly formed titanium carbide has no effect whatsoever on the grade 321 Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe. Additionally, titanium carbide has a strengthening effect on the material, along with providing some form of corrosion resistance to the Seamless 321 Stainless Steel Tubing. More importantly, when the alloy has to be welded using elevated temperatures, the formation of titanium carbides on the weld seam of the 321 Stainless Steel Exhaust Tubing prevents susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. The mechanical properties of this alloy are better than most austenitic stainless steels in the 300 series. And the chemical composition of the Stainless Steel 321 Seamless Pipe makes them suited to work in elevated temperatures because the alloy offers much better creep strength and stress rupture properties.
