The typical use of monel 400 is in marine environments where the alloy demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance behavior. Monel 400 tubeis known to have resistance to acids such as hydrofluoric acid, as well as to sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. Though the use of heat treatment has no effect on the alloy, it is possible to strengthen the alloy by subjecting it to a cold working treatment. Once the Monel 400 Seamless Pipe has been cold worked, the pipe not only becomes strong, but it also becomes harder and stiffer. While stiffness and hardness are properties that may not be desired in some components, the desirability of these properties in the Monel 400 Pipe makes them favorable for applications that have high pressure or force applied via the flow of media through pipes. The stress applied by the rate and change in the direction of flow can cause friction, and thereby crack the walls of the pipe unless a material like this is used in the manufacture of Alloy 400 Pipe.
