The properties of mild steel make it an ideal material to be used across various fields including the manufacture of auto parts, general engineering systems as well as piping systems. Most carbon steels are heavy on account of the percentage of carbon on their alloy. However, in the case of grade IS 1239 Mild Steel Seamless Pipe the lower content of carbon makes it lighter in comparison to high carbon steel pipes. Because the alloy is ductile, mild steel is a popular choice in the manufacture of several components including fittings and the IS 1239 seamless pipe. Moreover, it could be twisted and shaped into any form and GI pipe thickness as per IS 1239.
The popularity of these pipes and fittings is also attributed to the economic cost of the alloy. Because the cost of the alloy is dependent on the elements used to alloy it, the lower number of alloyants in the case of the IS 1239 pipe fittings definitely works in favor of its cost reduction. Due to the lack of variation in its elemental composition, in both quality and quantity, the corrosion resistance properties of the IS 1239 part 2 range from none to very little. The alloyants here are carbon and iron, with maybe trace amounts of copper, manganese, or silicon in the alloy. In order to increase the corrosion resistance properties of the alloy, the buyer would have to specify the kind of finish he needs to use on the IS 1239 GI pipe.
