ASTM A193 is a specification that covers both stainless steel and alloy steel grades. One such grade is B7, which is a molybdenum chromium steel alloy. Stronger than ordinary carbon steel alloys, the main reason for employing ASTM A193 B7 Bolts is in applications where both the use of high pressure and high temperature is common. Unlike carbon steel that has almost no resistance to corrosion, this chromium, and molybdenum containing A193 B7 Material work wonderfully in high temperature environments. Treating them with heat also improves the mechanical properties of the alloy. Mostly, the tensile strength of an ASTM A193 Grade B7 Threaded Rod sees an exponential increase once they have undergone quenching followed by treatment by subsequent tempering. Although like several other grades, these fasteners may be purchased plain or bare any finish. However, some instances call for better properties.

It is possible to upgrade these properties by treating the surface of the ASTM A193 Grade B7 Stud Bolts using techniques such as plating or even coating with different substrates. For applications that demand higher mechanical properties and superior resistance to corrosion, it is advisable to coat the fasteners with PTFE. Another advantage of using PTFE coated ASTM A193 Gr B7 Bolts is that the rate of friction becomes low. Furthermore, there is an enhancement with regard to the wear resistance properties of the alloy. In comparison to bolts that are not coated, the surface treated ASTM A193 Grade B7 Bolts have the ability to withstand environments where they are subject to elevated temperatures. Constructed with heads that are hexagonal in shape, the B7 Hex Bolts are threaded and short.
