Aluminum, by itself, offers excellent ductility. This property makes it easier for manufacturers to manipulate the metal and its alloys into difficult shapes such as a 6063 Aluminum Round Bar. This alloy contains additions of both magnesium and silicon in its chemical composition. This alloy is often tempered in order to improve its mechanical properties. One of the most common tempers for the 6063 Aluminum Square Bar is T6, which is hyphenated often to indicate the type of tempering done on that grade of aluminum. T6 indicates that the alloy has undergone a solution heat treatment, following which the 6063-t6 Round Bar has been artificially aged.

The heat treatment carried out at this temperature is at an elevated level to achieve an ultimate tensile strength that is a minimum of 190 MPa. The yield strength of this tempered 6063-t6 Rod is a minimum of 160 MPa. Tempering it with this designation will yield an increased strength of about 30% to the original 6063 Aluminum Flat Bar. The temper designation T6 for 6063 Aluminum Bar is carried out to impart maximum strength through means of artificial aging. Along with being treatable by heat, the alloy has good weldability. The mechanical properties of the UNS A96063 Rod are rated as good, similar to the aluminum alloy HE9, which is of British origin.
